today we celebrated bebe's birthday, two days early, with some of our dearest family friends. every year we all get together in the middle of july, when lucy (along with her son vito) comes back to the states from her home in italy for her yearly gallery show here. her brother alec and his wife rachel (and their two boys, harry and john) come up from the DC area, josh and i come out from boston, maggie and ben come up from NYC, and the now three generations congregate at one or the other of the (grand)parents' houses. last year, josh and i missed out on the fun because i was nine months pregnant and in no condition to travel several hours from home, which was a bummer at the time. but now, the timing of bebe's birth and of lucy's show means that beebs will get to have a yearly berkshires party!

*this is party number one. next weekend, we'll go up to grammy and grampa glen's house for party number two. and we'll do a little something, just the three of us, on tuesday. hey, a first birthday is a big deal -- gotta stretch it out and make it last!
