today beatrix got to watch the red sox/yankees game, since it was on in the afternoon. she put on some gear (thanks, kathy L.!) and was pretty excited.

she got all feisty, showing me what she'd like to do to alex rodriguez.

in the end the sox lost. but when i reminded her that we took two out of three, and that there's a very good chance there will be no baseball played in the last october of yankee stadium, she cheered right up.

she hates the yankees. i think it's genetic.

sunlight

yesterday i read this article, which discusses the risks of vitamin D deficiency in breastfed babies. human bodies are designed to make vitamin D through exposure to sunlight, not to absorb it through food sources, so breast milk doesn't contain vitamin D. this wasn't an issue until recently, when concerns about skin cancer led parents to slather their kids with sunscreen every time they're outside (thanks, global warming!). now, in some extreme cases, kids who were exclusively breastfed as babies have ended up with rickets. in the winter, i might decide to give bebe vitamin supplements, but since the best source of vitamin D is so plentiful right now, i decided to try to make sure that she gets some sun exposure when we're out for walks.

the problem is, like all babies, she hates having the sun on her face. can you see her disgusted expression?

even after i turned her back into the shade, she still seemed pretty peeved.

a snoozy, smiley day

we had a busy morning -- i had my final midwife appointment, and then we went to a new moms' group to hang out with some other mamas and babies. even though bebe spent most of the time asleep in her carseat, all the moving around and hearing other people's voices must have taken a lot out of her, because she spent the afternoon sound asleep on my lap, waking up only briefly to nurse and then falling back to sleep again.

at one point she looked really worried,

but i put my thumb in her hand and she clutched it tight and fell right back to sleep.

she also loves being on her changing table. i took more pics of her smiling because IT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER.

out to lunch

today bebe and i went out to lunch with our friends nora jane and her mom jill. jill and i were introduced by a mutual friend because we were both pregnant and due within ten days of each other -- and believe it or not, bebe and nora jane were born on the very same day! we were even on the same floor of the hospital. unfortunately i have yet to get a pic of these two together, since they are always confined to their carseats/strollers while we're out.

i was a little worried about whether the noise in the cafe would interfere with bebe's afternoon nap but she assured me things were cool.
