hot diggity dog!

on sunday, bebe and i had plans to drive down to providence to visit with bebe's buddy ocean and her parents angela and jack. they are making a big move down to DC this week and we were hoping to see them one more time before they go. unfortunately, our plans were foiled by a tanker truck that rolled over on I-95, spilling jet fuel all over the highway and closing it completely in the southbound direction. we didn't learn about this until we were sitting in completely stopped traffic, when i texted josh and he wrote back with the information.

at this point, around 11:30 in the morning, we'd been up for almost 6 hours and bebe had been a fussy, tantruming, crying mess for most of that time. she'd skipped her nap on friday afternoon, slept no longer than usual on friday night, took a short nap on saturday and then stayed up until 10 on saturday night while we visited friends. so at this point, she'd missed six hours of sleep over the past three days and not made up for any of it.

needless to say, it had been a trying morning for both of us. i pulled off the highway at the next exit, along with just about everyone else who was trying to drive south that morning. inching along route 1 in mansfield while bebe screamed in the backseat and i willed myself not to lose it, i spotted a friendly's up ahead. what better way to salvage the day than to take bebe to the favorite restaurant of my childhood for my favorite childhood meal -- a friendly frank!

it was just what we needed.

summertime fashion show

warm weather means a whole new wardrobe!


my formerly dress-averse daughter shocked me last weekend when, of her own accord, she chose to wear this adorable sundress that her grammy gave her for easter. it made me so happy, because she's got a closet full of gorgeous dresses (including several others from grammy that i hope i'll have the pleasure of sharing with you over the next couple months) that i was worried would never be worn. it also gave me hope that we might actually be able to get her into a dress for aunt marge and uncle ben's wedding this fall!

this orange ensemble is a favorite for two reasons. first, it has buttons! (though i just realized you can't see them in this picture -- they are big, and white, and are found where the straps meet the body of the shirt.) second, if you ask bebe what color she likes best, without fail she'll answer "o-nage." it's my favorite color too... think that's a coincidence?

and once she opened the door to dress-wearing, i've found that if i just present three dresses as her outfit choices for the day, she'll happily pick one. this morning, getting ready for a walk with daddy to the esplanade, she picked purple.

ooooh, and just wait til you see her in her bathing suits, people. we had a toddler pool party at ayelet's house yesterday, with the playgroup gang in various states of bathing attire/nakedness, and wouldn't you know it would be the day when my camera battery died almost instantly. but i bet we'll have a repeat sometime soon.

man, i love summer.
