our neighborhood has this great online parenting group that i joined while i was still pregnant. it's a really cool way to feel connected to our community -- it was through the site that i found a new moms' support meeting when bebe was a newborn, and i (and many, many others) have gotten great advice on issues like sleep, feeding, and choosing a pediatrician by tapping into the collective wisdom of the group. when i was pregnant and trying to accumulate all the gear i wanted to have for the baby, i posted to ask if anyone had a floor gym they wanted to sell, and was able to buy one for $20 from a fellow mom (they usually retail for $75). when bebe outgrew the fleece snowsuit she had been given as a gift, i posted to ask if anyone had one in the next size they could loan or sell me, and a few hours later another fellow mom dropped one off at our house -- it had been passed down to her and she just asked that i pass it along again when we were done.
i posted yesterday asking for suggestions about places to buy cheap/used board books, since bebe loves her books so much these days. most of her collection, though, is made up of really lovely hardcover, paper-paged editions that were given to her as gifts, which i'd like to keep in readable shape so we can enjoy them together when she's a bit older. now that she's mobile i had to take them out of the bookshelf in her room so she won't destroy them, and i was hoping to fill it up with some sturdier books in the meantime without spending too much money. well, this afternoon another mom came over with a bag full of board books that her daughters have outgrown. it was like christmas for bebe -- better, in fact, because she was actually too little at christmas to appreciate any of her awesome gifts.
she sat down right on the kitchen floor to inspect the loot.
