beatrix is nine months old today! that means she's been on the outside as long as she was on the inside. or, in other words, about as long as it took me to go

i don't know about you, but to me that feels like a long time!
here are some of my favorite, not-previously-blog-published, pictures from the past month.

a lot has changed in the past month. the biggest change, of course, is bebe's ability to crawl. as happy and content as she was before, she's even more so now that she can seek out the things that interest her most (be they parent-approved things like books and balls and blocks, or potentially deadly playthings like cords and electrical outlets!). she is also clapping, and developing her fine motor skills (eating small pieces of food one by one, turning the pages of her books, unzipping every zipper she comes across), and yesterday morning her second tooth finally popped through!
while crawling, clapping, page-turning, and finally possessing teeth, plural, are all pretty cool, they pale in comparison to bebe's best new trick. we call it the sparkle (tm). the sparkle (tm) first appeared on friday night, when we arrived at mems' and teeds' house around 9:30 and bebe refused to go back to sleep after being awoken in the transfer from carseat to crib. she sat up with us for 2 hours, eating pizza and watching the ball game, and in an apparent attempt to convince us that letting her stay up late was a good idea, she just kept sparkling at each of us in turn. the sparkle (tm) is kind of like a smile, except after the sparkler catches the sparklee's eye and smiles the initial smile, there is an additional squinch of the face, occasionally coupled with a head tilt. it's sort of like taking the smile to the next level. it is completely deliberate and is really the first time we've seen bebe control her facial expression at will.
it is difficult to capture on camera but i have spent the past few days trying my hardest. here are the best shots i was able to get, as well as a brief video montage.

In a true example of mommy brain I looked at the 5th picture down and thought - "funny I never noticed that Josh and Liza have the same rug as we do" and after a full minute of starting I realized no you moron - that is Bebe in your dining room. Very cute pics!
