quick catch-up

we're heading out of town for a few days and before we leave i wanted to try to make up for my inexcusable blogging delinquency by putting up a whole bunch of pics from the past week.

first of all, in case anyone was wondering wtf i'm going to do about childcare now that jamie is no longer coming, since yes i do still have a dissertation to write, bebe and i are very lucky to have come up with a wonderful alternative. my friend jessie, mom to bebe's birthday buddy morrie, was also in need of care, so as of this week we are starting a four days per week child care swap. we'll each have two days with the kids and two days to work, and beebs and morrie will get almost daily playdates. it's a win-win!

as if all this fun with morrie wasn't enough, bebe also got to see her buddy ocean last week! i had to go down to school for an afternoon, so i brought her along and we had dinner with ocean, angela and jack afterwards.

one of bebe's favorite new activities is walking down the block to the bike path that runs along the train tracks, and watching for trains. some days we get lucky and see subway trains, commuter trains, AND the high-speed acela. one evening last week we went trainspotting with euan and his mama (who, by the way, is getting ready to have a baby! any day now!) and met up with josh as he walked home from the train station. at times like these i love living in a city -- the possibilities for entertaining a toddler are almost endless and most involve no more than a 5-10 minute walk.

we got a new couch! bebe tried it out and gave it her stamp of approval -- the chompers grin.

this whole having a kid thing is starting to pay off now that we can put her to work...

on sunday morning we went out to the grocery store. a fire truck -- one of bebe's very favorite things in all the world -- was parked outside and when firefighter rocky saw us stop to admire it, he invited us in. i didn't think bebe would want to, since it was so big and unfamiliar, but when i asked "do you want to sit inside the fire truck?" she gave us a huge smile. so up she went. it might have been one of the best moments of her little life, so far.

bebe and daddy have been spending lots of great time together recently. she has so much fun with him, playing and going for walks and snuggling and being silly. by mid-afternoon she has started asking "daddy? daddy?" and keeps up her questioning until he walks through the door. at which point she usually flails her arms around in excitement for a while and then gets down on all fours to crawl around. she's kind of weird.

wearing her (read: my) favorite new diaper. we were inspired by kayalá's choice of diaper at her baptism a few weeks ago, and i ordered one in the same pattern (different color) the next time i needed to order soap and liners. i love cloth diapering!

she helped make dinner the other night...

and by "helped" i mean "kept herself entertained while i was able to get some pasta sauce started."

and, finally, a picture from this morning. bebe loves her new mister reusch tshirt so much that she insisted that josh put it back on over her PJs last night when he was getting her ready for bed.
