bebe goes to washington

last week, we took bebe down to our nation's capital to visit our friends alec, rachel, harry and john.

thursday morning, all ready to go:

the trip involved, in total, 14 trains, 4 shuttle buses, and 2 airplanes. i'm pretty sure the traveling was bebe's favorite part -- this kid LOVES vehicles!

her other favorite part was hanging out with harry and john.

on our first night, bebe checked out the book selection in the boys' room.

harry showed off some blocks

and so did john.

bebe and john shared an early breakfast together the next morning. see how it's still dark outside? that's what i mean by early.

bebe tested out john's crib and deemed it good for jumping.

john wasn't so sure what to think of her shenanigans.

on friday, harry had school and alec had to work, so bebe and josh and i took the train from MD into DC.

waiting for the metro.

bebe loved the big wide sidewalks where she could run and run to her heart's content.

on our way to the air & space museum.

inside the air & space museum. (which, as a funny aside, aunt marge thought was the "aaron space" museum when she was a little girl.)

checking out some exhibits.

these are WWII fighter pilot uniforms. i wondered which one my grandfather had worn when he was in the south pacific. i wished i could ask him.

we got some coffee and walked down the mall. bebe was obsessed with the capitol building -- every time we turned and started heading towards the washington monument she'd freak out, turn around, point back towards the capitol and cry.

josh took her for a closer look.

then we went to the zoo, where i took mostly video. i do have this one shot of bebe and josh looking at some water -- bebe loves water and this might have been even more exciting to her than the gorillas or the pandas.

on saturday morning, we all went back into the city and walked around capitol hill.

dueling umbrella strollers

hanging out on the metro

walking

enjoying some bagels

we stopped at a playground where all the kids had a blast running around

and then hopped back on the metro and headed for home.

that night, the boys introduced bebe to the joys of dress-up

and josh showed john and bebe how to operate the awesome fisher price garage that i think everyone of my generation had as kids.

alec and john played some dinner music

and bebe and john hugged it out.

the feeling of watching my child play with the children of my oldest friend is indescribable. we had a wonderful visit and only wish we lived closer to these guys...
