this is the first monday in over a year that bebe's auntie jamie hasn't come to take care of her. as it is for so many people, money is pretty tight around here these days, and our child care fund (money left to me by my grandfather, who died in 2007) has finally run dry. we were so incredibly lucky to be able to have jamie as bebe's very first babysitter -- i never would have been able to get back to working on my dissertation when beebs was only three months old without being secure in the knowledge that she was with someone who loved her almost as much as josh and i do, someone who we could trust absolutely.
i am more grateful than words could ever express to jamie for the care she has provided, for the love (and cute clothes!) she has showered on bebe, for her willingess to get up in the middle of the night and take the train all the way down here two days each week so that i could slog away at my diss. she stuck it out through a rough beginning when bebe spent much of their time together crying and reaped the rewards of her persistence -- bebe marie now loves her "ahnNEE" so very, very much. in fact, she is currently the only person with whom i can leave bebe without any tears. when auntie was here, i could just say "bye-bye, bebe, mommy's going to go do some work now" and bebe would wave at me, then reach her arms out so her auntie could pick her up.
luckily, auntie jamie is our family so we didn't have to say goodbye like we would have if she were just a babysitter. we will still see her regularly, and hope to be able to have her come down to babysit occasionally as well so that josh and i can get out every once in a while just the two of us. we are still really sad, though, that our wonderful child care arrangement had to come to an end.
thank you, thank you, thank you, auntie jamie. we love you so much!
