as bebe has grown increasingly capable of feeding herself with a spoon, breakfast has gotten messier and messier. she now gets a full bowl of oatmeal every morning, approximately 25% of which usually makes it into her mouth.
she's capable of getting it in there, but she's equally interested, if not more so, in what happens when she slaps her spoon into the bowl repeatedly, or dumps her cup of water into the oatmeal, or transfers spoonfuls of oatmeal into the now empty cup, or drops her spoon on the floor, etc., etc., etc.
i let her explore all she wants, because exploration is exactly the point of mealtimes right now. at 10 months, all her nutritional/caloric needs should still be met by breastmilk. food is for fun, to practice with, and to do the most important work of a baby's life: figuring out how things work. gravity, cause and effect -- these are important concepts and i love watching her test them out.
this morning was the messiest yet. after she was done eating i decided that a tubba was in order -- she usually gets her bath in the evening, but i wasn't sure i was going to be able to get all that oatmeal out of her hair any other way.
