west coast bday buddies ~ SF interlude ~

today jill, nora jane, bebe and i went to san francisco. the ostensible reason for our visit was lunch with my cousin adrian and his girlfriend claudia (which, in typical fashion, i utterly failed to get pictures of), but we got into the city with enough time to play before lunch. we took the girls to a really fun kids' spot at yerba buena gardens and they had a blast.

there were puddles to jump in

benches to sit on

bridges to cross

fences to look through

and a big slide!

wheeeeeeee!!!


after lunch/picture fail, we went back to the play circle again to let beebs and nj stretch their legs before we got back into the car to drive home (and nap, some of us).

they climbed up and down some stairs

and watched pigeons.

jill and i sat on the steps enjoying the warm sun and drinking coffees. we watched the girls as they played and at one point noticed them reaching down and splashing a little bit. it seemed harmless

but look at the expression on bebe's face (click to enlarge). clearly there was mischief afoot.

eventually we decided to go closer to investigate.

um, yeah.

we had packed changes of clothes for them both, though, so we let them carry on. i have possibly never seen two girls have more fun before in my life. "water! water!" they kept shrieking, inbetween screams of laughter. sometimes nora jane informed us, "bath."

eventually we cajoled them back to the strollers, changed their clothes and diapers, and headed back to the car.

i had forgotten clean socks and an extra pair of shoes for beebs

but she didn't seem to mind.

trip to the city = success!
