today, bebe is 21 months old, aka 1.75 years.
time is flying. i look at this long-legged girl who jumps and runs and dances through her days and wonder where my baby went. while i do miss that tiny, squishy, chubby, sweet-smelling infant, i am so glad to get to know the person she is becoming, and to be witness to that becoming. every day she learns something new -- she has mastered the climbing walls at two different playgrounds, figured out how to climb up slides and do the buckles on her high chair, and she can take the clothes off of her baby dolls and put on her own rain boots. she absorbs everything she's told and everything she hears and surprises me days or weeks later by bringing up the tiniest fact or event. she recognizes many letters by sight, and can tell you whose name they begin. "O for oz, M for morrie, B for bebe, J for josh, E for emma, W for will, I for ivan, R for riley." she has a community of friends, now. morrie is her closest buddy, of course, but she talks daily about oz and vienna and ila, about zaylie and ivan, about alma and jakob and aya and riley and ben. she moves through space in a conscious way now too, aware of all the different places that make up her surroundings: the little playground, the market, the bus yard, the big hill to morrie's house, the fire station, the big playground, the train tracks.
i guess what i am noticing about her these days is that she is so busily engaged in her world. we are lucky to live in such a vibrant and bustling community and she has become fully a part of it.
