my little secret

i don't miss staying up late.

i don't miss seeing every movie that interests me in the theater.

i don't miss going out to dinner on a whim.

i don't miss being able to go a whole week without doing laundry.

i don't miss rolling out of bed at 9 or 10 on a sunday morning and taking a leisurely stroll into town for brunch.

i don't feel isolated and lonely when we spend the whole day -- or the whole week -- inside our apartment.

i don't get bored.

i don't run out of things to talk about when it's just the two of us.

i don't ever, ever wish i was spending my time doing anything else.

this is not to discount, disrespect, or judge those stay-at-home (or working, for that matter) parents who do feel these things. they're all valid feelings, and i'm glad that space is finally opening up in our culture to allow mothers and fathers to acknowledge the bad as well as the good aspects of parenting.

but the truth is, for me -- i've never been happier in my life.
